Nestled on the scenic Old Mission Peninsula, the Base of Old Mission neighborhood charms with its blend of historic farmhouses, cozy cottages, and sprawling waterfront homes. Surrounded by lush vineyards and orchards, this tight-knit community is known for its stunning bay views, tranquil atmosphere, and a timeless, welcoming spirit that makes every neighbor feel like family.

Traverse City offers a welcoming, peaceful setting with a variety of housing options, including single detached homes and smaller apartment buildings. The mainly flat terrain supports reasonable cycling, complemented by an accommodating pedestrian environment with many nearby businesses for daily needs. Residents benefit from convenient access to over 50 supermarkets within a short trip and nearby pharmacies providing staple goods. Primary schools are easily accessible throughout the postal city, with both public and private choices available at elementary and secondary levels. With approximately 10 bus lines scattered around, public transportation provides useful alternatives. This community’s calm atmosphere makes it an inviting place to settle.

Traverse City is a postal city to buy a house in for those who prefer a laid-back ambience. Traverse City remains relatively quiet, thanks to the presence of few people out and about on the streets, although noise levels are higher closer to the airport (Cherry Capital) or one of the railway lines.

100th National Cherry Festival

This centennial celebration is Traverse City’s largest community festival with concerts, air shows, parades, races, cherry-themed contests and farmers markets—ideal for Base of Old Mission residents to enjoy a nearby week of family‑friendly, mostly free summer fun.

Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers' Market

Part of the Cherry Festival and also a regular summer farmers’ market, this is a great way for locals from Old Mission to grab fresh local produce, baked goods and artisan items just a short drive away.
